Point -- Counterpoint: Charles versus Charles
November 23, 2004

Editor’s note: Dearest readers of Seven Oaks – one of the most liberating aspects of the “End of Work,” post-industrialism and the post-modern age is the distance it grants us from the albatross of archaic social mores, and the corresponding freedom for reflection and discussion granted us all. In a world wherein the deep-cast trenches of “class warfare” have been replaced by the infinitely more agreeable discourses of “civil society,” we are pleased to bring you a sample of decorous, gentlemanly debate between two Charlies whom we all hold very dear. In the spirit of socio-cultural exchange, please enjoy an exclusive Seven Oaks point-counterpoint:

Point

Prince Charles: “What is wrong with people nowadays? Why do they all seem to think they are qualified to do things far above their capabilities?”

Counterpoint

Charles Demers: Agreed, so long as by “they” you mean thieving, anachronistic products of vicious, centuries-long cycles of inbreeding, and by “things far above their capacities” you mean that time you wanted to be a tampon.

Seven Oaks’ point-counterpoint is proudly sponsored by Herrod’s of London, the Church of England, and the Bhagat Singh Khalsa School for Wayward Boys.
