Charles Demers

Charles Demers, 26, is a writer, comedian and activist based in Vancouver, B.C. One of the founding editors of Seven Oaks, his humour essays, book and film reviews, editorials and short stories have appeared in such print and online publications as Vancouver Magazine, The Georgia Straight, Only Magazine, Rabble.ca, The Westender The Tyee, This Magazine, CommonDreams.org, FFWD: Weekly, Monthly Review's MRZine.org, and others. A former rank-and-file organizer with the Canadian Auto Workers' union and a founding member of Vancouver's Palestine Solidarity Group, he has also twice performed at the Vancouver International Comedy Festival, as well as in other comedy festivals on both sides of the border. Charles's comedy has been featured nationally on CBC Radio, and his sketch comedy project, Bucket -- a collaboration between he and Vancouver stand-up comic Paul Bae -- has received outstanding reviews from critics as well as from comedy legend Robin Williams. Charles lives in East Vancouver and is currently working on a novel.
